Posting rules: It shouldn't need saying, but... play nice. Please keep your discussions civil. You can disagree, just don't be disagreeable. And, of course, all of the usual stuff like no spamming. Tex adds: I'll be rigorously enforcing this as we go along. We're probably going to be a small community in a little lifeboat, so we can't have members at each others' throats. This is for the sake of the project as a whole. So when you post, pretend you're speaking in person with your very wealthy auntie who has always treated you wonderfully and currently lists you prominently in her will. I won't be tossing anyone out of the forums because we are all in this together (except spammers: immediate membership cancelation), but I'll delete suspect posts right away.

Welcome everybody,

I'm new here and while registering through my tablet xperia z4 with android 5.0.2 I had an error message but my account was setup correctly.

This is the message after hitting the button to register new account:

http://pastebin.com/raw/2BB2yb6x

Please check the website and server. It looks like after pressing the button there was a second submit action with the same content, after correct account setup on the website.

Sorry for pastebin but I'm not allowed to attach any file. I have also a screen shot of this error.

Kind regards,

Doug
Double-submission

It sounds like your request to register was simply submitted twice. Maybe you accidentally double-clicked the button, or maybe something happened amongst the various servers and software handling the request. The first request worked, the second was rejected because it was a duplicate.

In any event, you're properly signed up and all is well. Welcome aboard!

And I believe that we still have attachments disabled

That's currently still part of our security arrangement.

Future of attachments is dim

At this point, I don't know when, or even if, we'll be able to permit uploading attachments. The unfortunate fact is that if you can upload something, you can upload something evil. Not just spam, but hacking tools. That's why we've had to shut off the user images/avatars: a number of holes were found in the ImageMagick graphics-handling program, and some of those holes gave hackers pretty much free rein.

It's not like they're picking on our site. The bad guys have got scripts that are pounding probably millions of sites, looking for any place they can upload a hacking toolkit. A big problem these days is hackers who are placing advertisements to be shown on the big web sites. You go to the web site, your browser shows that ad, and a few hours later, your computer's been totally encrypted and if you want your data back, you need to pay hundreds of dollars in ransom.

As the saying goes, "This is why we can't have anything nice." There are evil people out there looking for any opportunity to wreak havoc, especially if they can make money off of it.

We can live with links,

but perhaps some emphasized "sticky" instructions could be made, how/where to publish images, that only have to be seen, and how the others, that must be available untouched, like raw images, and, especially, _lzn.jpg and _lzn.tiff edited images.

Virus Alert

Norton flags the LightZone...amd64.exe download as being infected with the WS.Reputation.1 virus. Is this affecting anyone else? Is the file compromised?

Thanks.

False positive

I advise uploading such files to Virustotal, here are results for windows 64-bit installer:
