Speak about translation

As we begin to speak about translating LZ in another topic, I create this one which one will be more appropriate than a RAW development topic.

I begin some few translations and I notice something :

In the Help/ directory, the subdirectory is named "english" is the directory name will be automatically updated by the langage name to get a help/french folder in my case ? Or do have I to do something ?

When I speak about translating filename, I speak, for example the help/english/acknowledgement file I have these file name inside

Help.css

Platform.css

index.html

index/index.html

images/app_icon-32.png

Logically, I think they have to stay unchanged (especially image file) or Omegat copy original files with a new name ?

ktgw0316
Yes, they have to stay

Yes, they have to stay unchanged. Dev-team will change the "help/English/" folder name when they marge translated documents into upstream source code. As for the link for css/html/png, use "Replace with Source" (Ctrl+Shift+R), or just keep them untranslated. :)

Note: There are two wikipedia links in linux/locale/com/lightcrafts/platform/linux/Locale.properties. Feel free to replace them with appropriate wikipedia pages for your language.

OmegaT won't automatically change folder names and html filenames, but it will create target .properties files with new names. For instance, from "source/abcd.properties" to "target/abcd_fr.properties".

Photonoxx
Ok, thanks.

Ok, thanks.

I had started to translating.

Is there a need to wait before use "create translated files" in OmegaT or can I do it regularly ? For the moment, I just have my work in OmegaT folder on GitHub.

ktgw0316
You can genarate translated

You can genarate translated files whenever you want since OmegaT upload only the .tmx database file. I think that it is because the single .tmx is easier to manage than a lot of target files.

Hi Mashihiro

Hi Mashihiro

I am the Danish translator. I have now finished translating the user Interface. I will just ask if everyting looks right to you.

Again a big thank for your big commitment to the project

Have a nice Day

ktgw0316
Wow, you've done it really

Wow, you've done it really quickly! I'll merge your work in the source code and check them as soon as I can.

Thank you. :)

Dutch translation

Hi Masahiro,

I (think i) have finished the Dutch translation (the locale files at least).

How can i "publish" them, or is that done automatically?

The help files will take longer, that's quite a lot actually.

ktgw0316
Hi,

Hi,

I'll create the target (translated) files from your work and merge them into source code. Thanks!

Masahiro

Photonoxx
Is there a difference between

Is there a difference between "Recycle bin" and "Trash" ?

ktgw0316
"Recycle bin" is for Windows

"Recycle bin" is for Windows and "Trash" is for Mac. Both are "la Corbeille" in French, regarding MS and Apple's website.

Photonoxx
Hi,

Hi,

I finished to translate the french part for ./lightcrafts/locale/com/lightcrafts/ except the metadata part for the moment.

There's still the bigger part : /lightcrafts/help

I hope I tranlate rightly, cause some sentence are no really visible in actual LZ (may be old UI text ? Or may be not yet implemented tool (I think about Rotate tool ) ?)

And may be some system spécifics sentences...

ktgw0316
Yes, the Rotate tool texts

Yes, the Rotate tool texts are for older UI.

Photonoxx
I begin the help part

I begin the help part translation.

Is there a way to translate and commit the specific to english images too ? How to proceed ?

ktgw0316
At this time, leave the texts

At this time, leave the texts inside images as is. To create translated images will take much more efforts, and anyway we have to wait translated version of LZ to take screenshots of UI.

Photonoxx
As I begin the help

As I begin the help translation, I notice the blend modes names wasn't in the UI translation...

Regarding this, should I leave for the moment the original name in the help (eventually giving a translation in parentheses ?)

ktgw0316
Okay, I'll add some code to

Okay, I'll add some code to add them in UI. Please translate those names in the help file. UI translation will be automatically filled when source file for the UI will be available.

Photonoxx
Ok thanks

Ok thanks

As mentionned below, LZ  Blending modes are very close to some Blending modes in Adobe Help.

Do you think it's a good idea to take the same name as in Photoshop ?

Photonoxx
I notice an unique segment is

I notice an unique segment is wrongly unique :

"The effect is similar to projecting multiple photographic slides onto the same screen."

for me it's segment 152.

It describe both Multiply and Screen blending mode but the segment best match with the screen blending mode where Multiply is more :

Projecting multiple superposed photographic slides with the same projector.

I don't know how to separate the unique segment in two distinct one

ktgw0316
Hmm..., I haven't noticed

Hmm..., I haven't noticed that. I think that the explanations for these modes are confusing. "Multiply" is similar to projecting a pile of multiple slides with single projector, while "Screen" is similar to projecting with multiple projectors that each of them has single slide.

It's possible to assign different translations on exact same sentences using right-click menu, but IMHO it is better to change the original sentences in this case.

I'd like to here other users' opinions.

The sentences is in LightZone Help > Photo Editor > Blend Modes. Since I'm not so good at English, please let me know your if you have nice candidates for alternative sentences.

Photonoxx
Doug spoke about that

Doug spoke about that sentence :

Light Crafts says: "This blending mode multiplies the base and blend colors. The result color is always darker. The effect is similar to projecting multiple photographic slides onto the same screen." That last sentence is bizarre; it's lifted from Screen mode, which is a lightening blending mode.

I notice some sentences are very close (if not exact copy) with the Adobe blending mode online help :

Here for french

http://helpx.adobe.com/fr/photoshop/using/blending-modes.html

For English :

http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/blending-modes.html

The comparison case for the Multiply Blending mode is the following :

"The effect is similar to drawing on the image with multiple marking pens."

May be it could be a good candidate ?

Photonoxx
I notice something which

I notice something which doesn't with LZ UI in the LZ help

For the part "converting images", after the segment : "To convert your photo:", the segment 316 (for me) tell that :

"Select File > Convert..."

But this entry doesn't exist, there's only a File > Convert image... or a Browser > Convert...

Additionnaly, the File > Convert image is only avaible from Editor mode (grayed out in Browser mode), and Browser > Convert... only avaible, obviously, from Browser mode.

After that, they do exactly the same thing and use the same dialog if you select only one picture in browser mode.

May be the english help could be modified to precise that (I do it for french translation).

ktgw0316
Thank you, I updated the

Thank you, I updated the source files to change the "Convert..." and the "Multiply" sentences today. Blend mode names were added, too.

Photonoxx
I'd found a little mistake in

I'd found a little mistake in the english help.

In the Rating photos, the subtitle say :

How to rotate photos directly in the Photo Browser.<segment 1166>

Instead of :

How to rate photos directly in the Photo Browser.<segment 1166>

ktgw0316
rotate -> rate

I've just corrected the typo. Thanks!

Icon's Label width

In french, some terms are longer, and they appears truncated.

Is there a way to adjust the space took by an icon in the toolbars depending of its label length or should I abbreviate them ?

ktgw0316
Sorry to overlook this. I'll

Sorry to overlook this. I'll check the UI spacings and fix them if possible.

Photonoxx
If it's impossible or hard to

If it's impossible or hard to adjust, tell me and I'll try to find shorter terms or use abbreviations (for the UI it could be acceptable in some case).

Photonoxx
OK, just a little message

OK, just a little message here to say I mostly achieve the french translation for the UI and the Help files.

The main thing which remains is the metadatas parts. For the moment, in the help files I just don't translate yet the Workflow integration which seems pretty outdated (but I'll try to translate anyway) and the legal notice, the rest is translated in principle...

Now, I may have some tweaking to do for the UI translation, I also notice some terms in UI which are not in the gitHub files (I'll try to report which soon) and some terms which seems to be in translated entries, but doesn't appears in the UI of beta 14 (for examle the fuzz control which still is "fuzz" in the UI while the translation was already  done..)

I hope it would be helpful for french users, and if there's some here, don't hesitate to comment the translatiob and suggest alternative if any...

Hi Masahiro

Hi Masahiro

I will just mention that i have made some debugging, and finished som forgotten parts in my danish translation. Hopefully it will be merged before we (hopefully soon) will release LightZone 4.1. I will continue to use a little bit of time to go on with further translation so it will be better and better over time.

Happy new year and have a nice day (;--)

ktgw0316
Thank you. :) I'll merge them

Thank you. :) I'll merge them before v4.1.0stable release.

Dutch translation

Hi Masahiro,

My message may have gotten lost in the threading of this post. I've posted it somewhere up here, but repeat here:

"I (think i) have finished the Dutch translation (the locale files at least).

The help files will take longer, that's quite a lot actually."

Thanks

Hi,

I'd like to add the translators' name in Acknowledgements.html in the help file for v4.1.0stable release, but I don't know your full name. Could you tell me your full name? If you don't want to make your name public, may I add your username instead of it?

Hi Masahiro

Hi Masahiro

So we are getting very close to a stable release (;--))

Thank your big contributions. Its a big help to a lot of people. And also a big thank you to everyone else.

My full name is "Lars Henrik Ørn". The last letter is a danish speciality in english it looks like "oe". So you might prefer to write it "Lars Henrik Oern" so it will be readable in all western encodings.

Have a nice day

Lars Henrik Ørn

Thank you, Lars. I'll update the help file.

The "Ø" is no problem, since it can be written as an ampersand-Oslash-semicolon in HTMLs.

@hcremers @larshenrikoern @Photonoxx

Hello,

I released LightZone v4.1.0~rc2 (Release Candidate 2) today. In this release Help contents were updated, So, could you update your translation? The source files on OmegaT repositories were already updated.

The files that need new translation are Acknowledgments.html and New_Features.html. (Default_Tone_Curve.html, Discover.html, and Legal.html are updated too, but they don't need to be translated.)

Thank you for your cooperation.

Translation to Danish

Hi

For the moment the UI is fully translated to Danish. But the helpfiles is only partly translated. This will happen over time.

Have nice day
