Need to re-crop portrait.

Posting rules: It shouldn't need saying, but... play nice. Please keep your discussions civil. You can disagree, just don't be disagreeable. And, of course, all of the usual stuff like no spamming. Tex adds: I'll be rigorously enforcing this as we go along. We're probably going to be a small community in a little lifeboat, so we can't have members at each others' throats. This is for the sake of the project as a whole. So when you post, pretend you're speaking in person with your very wealthy auntie who has always treated you wonderfully and currently lists you prominently in her will. I won't be tossing anyone out of the forums because we are all in this together (except spammers: immediate membership cancelation), but I'll delete suspect posts right away.

Need to re-crop portrait.

Portrait orientation Sony a7r raw files still need to be re-cropped. The editor opens them pre-cropped to landscape orientation.

Still getting a magenta line down one side of my raw images in the editor. RawTherapee has the same issue if you care to know.

Wow!  I thought it was just

Wow!  I thought it was just me or my camera!  Thanks for posting about the magenta line.  Actually, for me it's more than just a magenta line---there's a black one as well (and maybe another...)  Furthermore, I saw in some daylight shots that there was an even wider strip of distorted/smeared image.  I have not tried to open any files in LightRoom yet (I haven't gotten around to updating out of v4 yet...).  I haven't downloaded beta 8 yet---sorry to hear the landscape/portrait thing isn't fixed.  I'm sure it will be.

So, OT:  How are you liking your A7R so far?   Are you looking at the 645Z?  I think I'm headed that way....

I'm using beta 8.

I'm using beta 8.

I see now zooming in there are numerous lines.

The images don't show lines in Lightroom.

I went from a Canon 40d to a Sony Nex7, and then to the A7r. I was very impressed with the huge difference in image quality between the Nex7 and A7r. And yes I do really like the camera with very few reservations.

That 645Z should be awsome.

I've sworn off buying gear for the time being, I think.

OK, thanks for that

OK, thanks for that confirmation.  Very odd, but you say also in RawTherapee, so it looks like a dcraw fault.

I went from an Oly E-3 to a Sony A850 in 2010, picked up the NEX 7 I guess in Spring 2012 (my very first early adopter purchase...) in advance of a trip abroad.  And now the A7R this January  I've been impressed with all 3 Sony cameras, although the shadow and DR results from the A7R are indeed the best---very noticeable.  I have not tested it so much at higher iso's yet.  Have been hugely impressed with the EVF and manual focusing (I have only used an AF lens once on the camera).  If I do get the 645Z, and I am leaning that way, it would force me for multiple reasons to re-evaluate my entire gear situation---probably drastically reducing it.  I hate to say it, but the A850 and the NEX 7 are the prime candidates to go in this scenario, both really fine cameras.  But the A7R---difficult as it can be---and the 645Z would have me covered, light and heavy, but at very high quality.  So, in one significant way for me it would be a way to get off the upgrade train for a long time.
