lightzone camera profiles

I have just joined this site: after a quick 'scan' on this topic I thought I'd check the template folder in my Lightzone vers.3.9.2 and discovered there are no camera templates at all! Plenty for various other functions.
would some kind person help me to obtain the template for a Pentax K10D please.

K10D profile

The built-in Raw Tone Curve profiles are inside the lightcrafts.jar file. The files initially in your Templates folder are the Styles, but you can add new profiles or changed profiles (if you don't like the built-in one) to that folder.

LightZone 3.9 and 3.9.2 already has a built-in K10D Raw Tone Curve profile, so you shouldn't have any problems with that camera.

Raw Tone Curve

Dear Sirs.
I don't know about raw tone curves, but it can be that i don't have it build in because my images open darker as i see them in my brouwser, could you please help with that?
many thanks in advance.
regards,charles

Doug
Raw Tone Curve or not

Charles, when you open your image for editing, on the right side of the window is your tool stack. The one on the bottom is the "RAW Adjustments" tool. Right above that is where the Raw Tone Curve tool will be, if you have one for your camera model.

If you only have the RAW Adjustments tool, tell us what camera model you're using and we'll see if we can make a Raw Tone Curve for you.

charles
Raw Tone Curve

Hi Doug.
Thanks to reply so soon,i've checked what you explained and indeed i've only Raw Adjustment tool, the camera i use is Canon EOS Rebel T3i.
thanks in advance.

Doug
T3i Raw Tone Curve

Charles: you can download the Raw Tone Curve for the T3i from here: https://github.com/Doug-Pardee/LightZombie/raw/master/Templates/CameraRa...

Download it into your Templates folder. On Windows, look in your Documents folder for a LightZone folder, and inside that is a Templates folder that has the predefined Styles. That's where you want to download this file to.

If you're using a Mac, look in your "Home"/Library/Application Support folder for the LightZone folder, and there's a Templates folder inside that. If you're on Lion, I believe the Library folder is hidden so you'll have to unhide it first.

If you're using Linux, look in the LightZone installation directory for the Templates directory.

ALSO: install the updated version of dcraw into LightZone. The version that's shipped with 3.9 (or 3.9.2 for Macs) doesn't recognize the T3i and uses a generic EOS configuration.

Check out the links on the left side of this page.

Camera Profile for the Pentax K-R on OS-X

I'm happy to see that you have included the files for the Pentax K-R! i'm planning to buy one this month... But, I have a MacBook Pro on Lion (10.7.2) and I don't see anything that tells where I might put it on OS-X. I expected that it might be in Library/Application Support/ but there is no folder for LightCrafts or Light Zone. I looked at the package contents in the Application folder and I can see the jar file, but I don't see where camera profiles might go. Does anyone have an idea?

*****Added

After looking around I see something about CDRAW as well in regard to this profile on Mac, but I don't understand exactly what the outcome of the long thread is - does CDRAW also need to be updated? Where does it live?

Doug
Camera profiles for Mac

I'm not a Mac person, but my understanding is that there should be a LightZone folder where you're looking ("Home"/Library/Application Support/). Inside the LightZone folder should be a Templates folder, full of the "styles" that ship with LZ. That's where you'd put the new camera profile.

I'm told that Library is a hidden folder on Lion; I wonder if somehow the LightZone folder also ended up hidden?

Hopefully one of our Mac users will have the answer.

Or if you can find the LightZone Log file (I think it's in Application Support/Logs), there should be a line in there complaining about not finding the profile when you tried to open a K-r Raw file, and it'll tell you exactly where LZ's looking.

Bobg22483
Library Folder on MAC with the Lion OS

It is hidden unless you hold the option key down while using the Finder's Go menu.

MichaelD
Mac Library Location

It is indeed hidden in the Users/username/Library/Application Support/LightZone directory.

Everyone's mileage may differ - so I used the standard showallfiles in terminal to get to it

In terminal: defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles YES
Then I reset finder by holding the alt (option) key and right clicking finder (Lion two finger tap)
Select Relaunch Finder from the dropdown list
Change to the drive base directory - all hidden files are showing
Navigate to your user directory and library. You will notice that although the library is hidden, the folders in it are not.
After adding the file from a text editor with the proper name -
In Terminal: defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles NO
Reset finder as above.

Thanks Folks!

Doug
dcraw on Mac

Yes, you definitely need to update dcraw for the K-r, unless you want some truly surreal colors.

There should be a dcraw file already located in LightZone.app/Contents/Resources/Java. Rename it for safekeeping, then download the new version into its place.

You may also need to clear the LZ cache if you've got any files still showing the wild colors after you've installed the new dcraw. Go to the Preferences window, General, and there should be a Clear button for BrowserCache.

lx5 or x10 support appreciated

i have had the panasonic lx5 for a year and now think of giving up on it as i was waiting for the lightzone support in vain; i had written to lightzone and gotten promised support for lx5; they told it would come in lightzone 4, (which never appeared)

now i plan to get the x10 next year, which also has better ooc jpgs, and terrible bundled raw software; and all my lx5 raws are still unused, as i have been postponing getting any other raw program (i really dislike importing and exporting)

hope this evolves and maybe i can do something although i have limited programming experience
thanks for the effort!

Doug
LX5 already supported

We've already got support for the LX5. Download the appropriate dcraw update, and the LX5 Raw Tone Curve, and you should be set.

Dave Coffin should be getting the dcraw update for the X10 out in the next couple of weeks. Since this is a new sensor, creating a Raw tone curve will probably have to wait until DPReview does a review of the camera and provides the Raw file from its studio scene. You're welcome to try to create your own from your own Raw files, though.

How to install new DCRAW and camera.default?

I have Fuji xpro1, windows 7 (64bit) and LZ 3.9 (trial), installed trial, copied new dcraw.exe (+ clicked it twice) in LZ -folder and "CameraDefault;FUJIFILM X-PRO1" in Tempalate -folder, but can't open Fuji RAF -files in LZ. In edit windowqs I see only some mess. What is wrong?

tex
i am so sorry i did not answer you before!

Right now we are swamped, but soon we should be able to turn some Dev Team resources towards the raw profiling. For now, all i can say is try following Doug's instructions again.. A new memebr, Francois, just sent me something that sounds /looks surprisingly similar, and I will be forwarding it on to the dev team.

Oly E30 - lightzone vs thumbnail

Hi,

I'm new to lightzone and when comparing the default edit (RAW adjustment and tone) and the thumbnail generated by my Oly E30, the image in Lightzone is somewhat underexposed.

Are you sure that the default tone curve for the E30 is correct?

I uploaded a screenshot to my dropbox account so you can see how both images look like and you can also see their histograms... https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/252547/LZ_vs_thumb/E30_lightzone_vs_...

Thanks.

tex
The thumbnail is an embedded

The thumbnail is an embedded jpg, and it will usually look very different from your raw image.  In the case of your example, everything looks about right to me.  Some of my embedded jpg's a much more wildly different than what you've got here.  You ought to be able to lift your shadows, and because of what LZ can do, you ought to be able to do it w/o overexposing the white manikin face, as seems to be happening in the reference jpg.

The raw tone curves in LZ often look really whacky, btw....

How do you add new RAW profiles in Lightzone 4?

Hi there.  I am new here and I saw the profile for Nikon D3100 on the site and I downloaded it.  The problem is I can't find where I should put it in the program folder or how to install it.  Any help will be very appreciated.

Lumix LX7

Goodmorning,

I have since a half year a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX7. I like to start with raw, but my photoshop is too old.

Also here i can't find any profiles for it. Is this in progress or is there no demand for it?

Update: We are working on new profiles

We are working on new profiles right now.  Should be finished in a week or so.....we have over 50 to do.

Update:  I have hit a small glitch, dcraw related, which will delay these about another week in terms of my production.  Remember that we then have to get them integrated into the latest beta.  Hope to have this ready for members by April 1.

Adobe DNG Convertor

Hello,

I recently purchased the Canon 6D camera and noitced that it is not one of the cameras listed as available for conversion.  I tried to use the video to create a version for but accidently over-wrote the file therefore making it useless.  I since removed the defautl template 6D file.  I can try to create a new one but don't think my first attempt was a great one.

My question in related to using the Adobe DNG convertor that be used using Wine in my Ubuntu 13.10 OS.  When using the DNG file for raw conversion how does Ligthzone handle it?  It appears that when I bring in a dng file the it somehow brings in a Raw Tone Curve that is locked.

Somehow even the CR2 raw file producd by the camera is creating a Raw Tone Curve as well.  Where is it getting the Raw Tone Curve from?  I am using the latest 4.0 verion of Lightzone.

In comparing the CR2 raw file to the Adobe DNG file the histograms, hence brightness, appear to differ.  I'm not sure why.

Thanks!

Steve

sony a7r profile

Great job you guys are doing!  I have a Sony A7r camera producing arw files.  I am assuming the profiles for that camera doesn't exist yet since when I open the arw file in edit mode, it produces a heavy greenish blue film on the entire image.  Are you guys or can you guys make a profile for the sony a7r?  I've include a link to a small jpg sample of the output.  Thanks.       https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=14D3086069D84F81!277&authkey=!AMPO7J62UrJwNEA&v=3&ithint=photo%2c.jpg

I am working on raw profiles

I am working on raw profiles right now and they will be incorporated into v4.1 beta 7 within days.  That's the good news---and I also have an A7R, so I have a special interest here!  My A7R profile seems to be working just fine....except:  the bad news---all the new Sony profiles are exhibiting slight color casts, unlike all the other profiles for other manufacturers which are neutral.

I have now done the Sony profiles 2 or in some cases 3 times.  I am going to try again.  It's a weird problem, worse for a couple of models than the other 5.  Not sure where the problem is coming from, which is why I am trying again.  It is weirder still, but I won't go into the details here at this time.  The next good news is that you would probably not see the cast in "real world" shooting.  Again, the bad news is that if you are doing color critical work, for instance shooting with a Gretag Macbeth card, you'll see it. Again again, the good news is that it is one-click correctable with the eyedropper  in either the Raw Tool, White Balance, or Color Balance Tool.

wingsdomain
That's terrific, Tex!  The

That's terrific, Tex!  The A7r is a great little camera that packs alot of punch, just got to be alot more patient when it comes to the AF.  Sony's Image Data Converter on the otherhand just plain sucks!  Glad you will be getting a new profile out soon, and I'll give the eyedropper tool a try too.  FWIW, the weirdness in the arw files may be due to Sony doing some weird things to their raw files?  It's been suspected on the net that their raw files are not really completely unbaked already.  -W

tex
AF?  We don't need no stinkin

AF?  We don't need no stinkin AF!  ;-}  The only AF lens I've used on it is the 10-18.  I didn't even get the LEA-4, I got the 3.

Never tried the Sony Data Converter---and I'm with Sony now for 4 years and 3 cameras.  I'm just scratching my head a bit about this problem---later today I'll be back on it and I hope to solve it.  The problem:  of the Gretag Macbeth squares, only one is clearly out of balance---the others are either much better or neutral.

As far as baked raw files, that's been suspected/proved of both Canon and Nikon as well.

wingsdomain
Yea, that one out of balance

Yea, that one out of balance square is showing up a little red, at least on my monitor.  Appreciate you spending the time.  And not that I will be using my A7r for action photography (I'll stick to my trusty Canons for that), but try MF for birds in flights and you will quickly be converted.  ;-)  -W

See my response in your other thread ...

The camera profile support is mostly to do with interpreting the RAW file and trying to get the colours acceptable to all.

How to take a sample picture ?

Hi,

As Imaging ressource still not have Fuji X-E2 sampe, I try to shoot a sample myself, but what is important to observe to do it ?

Notably, how to be sure I get the right exposure ? I set my camera to 0 ev exposure correction, but exposure depend on the whole scene... Should have to shout the card only with no background (I just have the mini card sell with my ColorMonkey photo), which white balance to use, which lightsource (is sun light ok, or totally not).

Here I upload my first try, sun light, the lighting angle may be not optimal (more from the side than from the front, may be with a 30° angle).

http://photonoxx.free.fr/forum/LZ/XE2-RAF/

There's too a LZN with a try of RAT, but color are different from embed jpg, but not too bad for beginning a post process.

May be it could help, or give me some instruction for doing new sample (if it's possible with what I have).

downloading raw tone curve

I am new to Lightzone - and so far have found it incredible!

However, when I open a RAW file from my G12 I only get the default RAW adjustment. I realise I have to install the G12 Tone Curve.

I have found this on my computer and can see the details ( lightcrafts/resources/com/lightcrafts/ui/editor/assoc/resources/CANON POWERSHOT G12.lzt ) but I cannot see where there is an option to download the file.

Can some one please tell me how to go about doing this?

Many thanks.

Jacal
Or install beta 13

If you mean this page, you only have to copy the code, paste it in a text editor and save as CameraDefault;CANON POWERSHOT G12.lzt

Then move it, if you are on windows 7, to C:\Users\Yourusername\Documents\LightZone\Templates\

But I would rather install the latest beta version, where this profile is included. On windows, you can also have multiple versions installed.

Have a nice day!

By the way,

with beta 13 you should avoid using Ctrl-R to show/hide regions, use mouse instead. The bug has been confirmed by our developer and will be fixed in next version. And there might be some other bugs there, but generally the program works quite well.

Mart

Pentax K-3

Is there a seperate K-3 raw curve?  I just saw a reference to the program this after noon and it really look interesting (and yes, I remember reading about the zone system years ago, so it's interesting to find it so supported).

I saw that there might be one in the 4.1 beta. Would I be best of to go with that or is there a way to add it to the regular 4.0 production?  And if I do ue the 4.1 beta, how do I know the program is using the correct "curve" - does it just read the image's EXIF info and apply it, or is it user selectable?
