Lightzone appears in Win 7 Task Manager Processes, but program doesn't open

Lightzone appears in Win 7 Task Manager Processes, but program doesn't open

Downloaded the new Win Beta yesterday (v4 had been installed and used successfully for several weeks). Beta installation seemed trouble-free but when I attempted to start program, it failed without any  error message (no program window appeared), Lightzone.exe process appears in Task Manager, but program doesn't appear  in Applications Window.

Suggestions, please?

BTW, I uninstalled ( via  Win Control Panel AND CCleaner) but reinstallation attempts of both 4.0 and Beta had same issue. I think I've tried all options without success . . .

System is Win7 64-bit (more info available upon request )

Great software, I miss it already (although all is well on my desktop installation of 4.0; also Win7 64-bit)

Thanks in advance

Something to check

Are you running multiple screens? Or, more specifically, has the machine been set up for multiple screens but you can only see one of them at the moment?

Often the missing application window can be found on the non-visible screen  ....

Alternatively the 'Last Position and size" information in the Windows registry is incorrect. I have in the past seen example whereby the Width value had somehow been set to 1 pixel (you might kjust be able to see something flickering on the very edge of the screen window) or a width set to a negative value (which assumes, for example, that a window positioned at the extreme left of a screen should display to the left and not the right.and thus becomes invisible. I can;t remeber seeing that in WIn 7 days though.

There could be some other explanation but I think I would start there and see what you graphics driver settings may tell you. If you happen to have updated that recently ... well, lets just say that some time back 2 consecutive updates for the driver on one of my machines caused some problems so I am always suspcious of them.

Thanks for the direction . . .

The problem I'm having is on a laptop w/o a second monitor configured, so that wouldn't be the problem.

As far as the registry issue, would that be something the Beta installation (which is where the problem seems to have originated) could have caused? Since the laptop is primarily my wife's system, I'm loathe to get into the registry as i understand there is some potential to wreak havoc with the system and it's outside of my experience to go there  . . . :>)

The original 4.0 installation performed well and there don't seem to be any issues with any of the other installed software. I'd assume (dangerous, I know) that the graphics drivers are OK, they haven't been updated or modified in any way (AFAIK)

Can you clarify your statement regarding "last position & size" comment regarding the registry settings? I'm not sure I understand what I would be looking for in the registry - is this something that would appear in a sub-section tied to the lightzone.exe? .Sorry for my ignorance, I've never been in the Registry so I'm not sure what info is there and how it is structured.

In any case, thanks for your input

Registry settings

Hi Barry,

Your wife's laptop you say .... hmmm..  definitely not something to mess with then ...!

If you have never dived into the registry before we should probably seek other approaches before going there.

I have things that will use up my time for the next few hours but will come back to this later (hopefully).

Meanwhile if anyone else has suggestions please chime in.

What happens when ....

Are you still struggling with this?

If so, what happens when you go into the Windows Task Manager and hightlight the running task and then click the "Switch to" button or use the task Manager Menu > Windows>Bring to Front   ?

If those investigations give you nothing can you identify the graphics card in the machine (if it has a dedicated card - the chances are it just runs a motherboard standard graphics display device ) and we can start to check whether that may have any 'interesting' settings that might lead to things becoming invisible.

I assume you have, at some point, already tried the basic "I wonder if re-booting a few times will fix it?" method ....?

reinstalled latest java software but still no luck

Installing Lightzone windows 4 on a windows 7 PC

I'm having exactly the same problem as your's.  The program installs but never runs (error message "cant find JVM" or something like that.)

Is there any work around discovered since your posting of 11/28/2013?

I would appreciate to be informed

Thank you

just got back . . .

Thanks for the input, just returned from a few days offline, will look into your suggestions and respond ASAP!

now here's something interesting . . .

I didn't notice this before, but the following text file appeared after each installation failure (as file install4jError259507516011848543-the error number varies, but file content remains the same)

here's the text:

it's all Greek to me(except the connection to Java),but perhaps to you? . . .
BTW, here's a link to the specs of the system having the problem:

The computer has the i5-340m processor and Intel integrated graphics - system ran Lightzone 4.0 for a few months w/o a hitch, problem only appeared after I attempted 'upgrade' to the current beta. Quite likely makes no difference, I'm using the software to process Nikon D3100 .nef files

Any ideas much appreciated . . .

Could not load JMV Library in win 8.1

Same problem in win 8.1. It works perfect one or two times, then the message "Could not load JMV Library" appear and stop starting.

Anyone knows what could it be ?
