October 1 2013 Update: V4.1 Beta Testing Has Begun

Posting rules: It shouldn't need saying, but... play nice. Please keep your discussions civil. You can disagree, just don't be disagreeable. And, of course, all of the usual stuff like no spamming. Tex adds: I'll be rigorously enforcing this as we go along. We're probably going to be a small community in a little lifeboat, so we can't have members at each others' throats. This is for the sake of the project as a whole. So when you post, pretend you're speaking in person with your very wealthy auntie who has always treated you wonderfully and currently lists you prominently in her will. I won't be tossing anyone out of the forums because we are all in this together (except spammers: immediate membership cancelation), but I'll delete suspect posts right away.

I have always felt that October 1 meant the first real day of Fall where I live.  And I have also felt that each season in its turn marked a new beginning, not just Spring.  So it pleases me that our beta test of the new version of LZ begins today.  Read on for more....

This is an important milestone for the project in a very significant way.  We have already rolled out the newly compiled v4.0 version of LightZone back in June and July, obviously a threshold of critical importance.  But for the most part that was all about newly compiling and fixing some bugs in the old v3.9.2 LightZone last sold by Lightcrafts, and the beginning of our ability to offer the program to the public ourselves..  Yes, there were new raw profiles and maybe a tweak here or there, but it was essentially the same program and the version number reflected its new open source incarnation more than any new features.

Today is qualitatively different.  Today we are very proud to begin this beta test with new features either added back into the program from older, pre v2.x versions, or newly created by us.  In short, today we begin our life as an organization committed to further development  of this fine program beyond raw updates (not to diminish their importance, key to the continued life of the product).  These new features are modest in scope, yet it's a big step, and may not be easy to maintain.  But we have a strategy, already begun, that may help us do this.  More on that when we are a little further along. We are also now at the point where we can begin to look at the new development material left to us by Fabio from Lightcrafts, material that was supposedly close to implementation when Lightcrafts went out of business.

So once again we owe a debt of thanks to our Dev Team.  To see what new features are coming in v4.1, go HERE .

Is it required to uninstall version 4.0 ...

or can I run the new 4.1.0beta1  parallel to version 4.0 in the same system (Windows 7 64-bit)?

Thanks to the whole team.

dke

tex
That's two questions:  No you

That's two questions:  No you don't have to uninstall, but v4.1 will overwrite v4.0 I believe.  So if you want parallel, you'll need to sequester v4.0 somehow: another machine, a partition, or something. Maybe save to a new folder? Of course, you have unlimited access to v4.0 here if you want to go back after an overwrite.

Beta Test

I'd like to test the Windows 64-bit and Linux 64-bit betas here too, so I would greatly appreciate the links.

I look forward to helping out with the testing and debugging.

TIA

Great job all! I went ahead

Great job all! I went ahead and uninstalled v4 before installing Win 64-bit because when I tried to leave 4 installed the new installer wanted to put the install into the x86 folder. I could have changed it but just decided to go completely clean install. No issues whatsoever with the new build for me though and it seems faster. I went through an entire edit and tried out just about everything I could think of.

Interested in 4.1b for win x64

Hi,

I'm observing performance issues on my system during program load,  and sometimes there is a considerable delay when doing changes. The display refresh is delayed sometimes more than 1 second.

I'd like to see if the same issue is in the 4.1.

Thanks for providing the software for free.

Linux Beta

Works like a charm under Linux Mint 14 (Mate) and Debian 6. I do not see any difference between the 4 and 4.1 versions. I am just playing around with all the functions I can imagine. So far so good.

Thank you to the developers who have again produced a very fine piece of software.

Count me in for testing too.

Count me in for testing too. Tho I cant download even regular version yet (still not approved I guess after three weeks of being registered?). Now I can at least log in, not that its particulary useful. :D

I have LZ4 (and had LZ3.9), rather nice piece of software, so Im quite curious how 4.1 will work..

Btw. will there be any option to change demosaicing algorithm? Sorta problem for me as my outdated S5 Pro works best with AMaZe or DCB and not one inside current (4.0) LZ.

Edit: I can download old 4.0. :D Im just blind and/or things are not exactly in logical places for me..

So I assume, 4.1 isnt "open beta"?
